Brookline Access Television 

Brookline Access Television's state-of-the-art facility is located in the Unified Arts Building, 46 Tappan Street, and includes two Mac labs fully equipped with the latest software, such as Adobe CS5 and Final Cut Studio. BATV's control rooms and studios feature full high-definition switchers and Sony cameras.

 

Please note: Before enrolling in BATV classes, all students are required to attend Orientation/Mac Fundamentals, offered free of charge every Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 pm. For more information, please call 617-731-8566. Click here to enroll.

Upcoming BATV Adult Education Workshops

Field Camera

Join us to learn video camera basics in this interactive, hands-on course. In the Beginning class, you will learn basic high-definition camera usage and maintenance, including white balance, focus, zoomming, panning, and proper tripod use. You will also explore audio basics and how to use a microphone. Students will leave with a strong understanding of video camera fundamentals. The Intermediate class is project-based and gives students who have completed the Beginner class more hands-on experience with high-definition cameras. Students will further develop their filmmaking skills by creating a video to be critiqued in class. Upon completion of the Beginning class, students will be able to use HD cameras independantly at BATV. Must complete BATV Orientation prior to enrollment.

Introduction to Digital Video Editing with Final Cut Pro

 Learn to edit your own videos in BATV's computer lab. Final Cut Pro is a user-friendly, advanced digital video-editing program designed to help you create professional-looking videos. In the Beginning class, you will learn how to navigate the Final Cut Pro interface, manage media, import and capture footage, edit in a timeline, and add video and audio effects. After mastering the basics, students in the Intermediate course will boost their digital video editing skills by learning how to edit using multiple audio and video tracks, manipulate clips in the timeline, log clips, work with subclips, add text, create transitions, and more. At the end of the Intermediate course, students will be adept at customizing their video projects and capable of exporting sequences and clips. Students must have completed the Beginning class prior to enrolling in the Intermediate class. Limited to 16.

Introduction to Television Studio Production

 Learn to create a studio production at Brookline Access Television. From managing the floor to directing, the Beginning course will introduce you to the basic skills required to produce your own show. Working with BATV's access coordinator, you will learn all aspects of operating a television studio and control room, including how to use studio cameras, the teleprompter, and our state-of-the-art Broadcast Pix switcher. In addition, you will control lighting, audio, and graphics for a complete studio production. The Intermediate, project-based class will allow students who have completed the Beginning course to enhance their production skills. This course will introduce you to use of the green screen and more advanced teleprompting techniques. Limited to 10.

BATV Orientation

What is BATV?  How can I share my idea with the community?  What are the opportunities available to me? Learn the basics of the BATV Mac labs and suites in this one time introduction class.  Get hands on training on a Mac and learn how to use BATV’s network to better acclimate yourself with the way our access center works.  Whether you are thinking about buying a Mac or want to learn how to use a Mac based program, this course will teach you what you need to know to keep up.  Additionally, BATV will teach you file management on our EditShare network so you can safely and efficiently store your media.  Pass the proficiency quiz at the end of the class to qualify for all BATV courses.  Receive a membership ID upon completion of BATV Orientation and Mac Fundamentals.  Required for all new members and participants.

The ABCs of Producing a Show

Do you have a show idea but are not sure of the next steps to making it happen? This workshop is for you! In this 2 hour session, a staff member will guide you through planning your showing and starting on your production schedule.

This workshop occurs the first Tuesday of each month at 8pm

Motion Workshop

 Learn the basics of animation programs such as "Motion" so that you may enhance your videos. This class usually runs from 7:30- 9:30 and is offered weekdays by appointment only. To sign up for a class, email andy@batv.org.
